This article explains what to do if the external wallet (EOA) you want to use for the Rodeo Send-Off is already linked to another Rodeo account. Following these steps carefully will help you avoid accidentally losing access to assets.
When does this apply to me?
This applies if both of the following are true:
- You have more than one Rodeo account, and
- The external wallet (EOA) you want to use is already linked to one of those accounts
This commonly happens when:
- You originally signed up for Rodeo using an external wallet (EOA), and
- Later created another Rodeo account using an email address
How Rodeo accounts and wallets work (important context)
On Rodeo, every account uses a Rodeo smart wallet to handle posting, collecting, and earning on your behalf.
- This smart wallet is created for you automatically
- It holds your posts, tokens, and balances
- During normal operation, Rodeo handled all blockchain transactions for you
An external wallet (EOA) can only be linked to one Rodeo account at a time.
As part of the Rodeo Send-Off, you will move assets out of your Rodeo smart wallet and into an external wallet that you control.
Why order matters
If you try to link an external wallet that is already tied to another Rodeo account, you’ll be asked to delete the existing account.
⚠️ If that account still holds assets, deleting it will make those assets inaccessible.
For this reason, it’s critical to complete the Rodeo Send-Off on the account that already has the external wallet before linking that wallet to another account.
How to safely complete the Rodeo Send-Off with multiple accounts
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Log in to the account already linked to your external wallet
This is usually the account you originally created using that wallet.
Step 2: Complete the Rodeo Send-Off on this account
Using the Rodeo Send-Off, make sure you:
- Transfer all assets out of the Rodeo smart wallet
- Preserve any posts created by this account, if applicable
Confirm that this account no longer holds:
- Posts or tokens
- USDC
- Base ETH or Ethereum (L1) ETH
Step 3: Log in to your other Rodeo account
This is the account you want to keep using (often the one created with an email address).
Step 4: Link your external wallet
When you link the external wallet to this account, the now-empty secondary account will be removed and the wallet will be associated with your primary account.
If you’re not sure which account is which
If you’re unsure which Rodeo account is linked to your external wallet, or whether an account still holds assets:
- Log into each account and review balances
- Do not proceed with linking until you’re confident one account is fully empty
If you’re still unsure, contact Rodeo Support before continuing.
Key takeaways
- An external wallet (EOA) can only be linked to one Rodeo account
- Always complete the Rodeo Send-Off on the account that already has the wallet first
- Never delete an account that still holds assets
- When in doubt, pause and contact support
